MIA Musical Rendezvous with Nikon 70-200mm F2.8 vr2 lens.

It had been spending lot’s of Money on camera stuffs, lens, camera body, new lens, upgrade…etc.

Yes and Yes, they cost more then thousands every “upgrade” i made. WHO CARE, I LOVE IT.

Some shoot i took with Nikon 70-200mm vr2 ED

Before the concert “Musical Rendezvous”, i had been asked by the head of MIA music department Mrs. Yeo (we call her Doctor Lok now) on being a photographer on this concert. YES !! Another excuse to upgrade! 

Upgrade? What should I upgrade? lens? new camera body? Computer? 

spending money is a easy task, but earning back the amount is what dragging me to decide which thing i have to buy. Every decision i made will have different outcome of pictures quality.

So, after few days of searching web review, opinions, youtube, I finally decided to upgrade my sigma lens to Nikon Vr2 70-200mm F2.8 ED, a long name and it cost high price, luckily i found a camera seller which accept trade in for my old lens, it just have to add on another 4xxx on it…..(now u know how much this lens roughly cost)….

So now, I have the lens focal length from 24mm to 200mm for the nikon lens, which from the nikon “holy trinity 3” lens, i had covered 2 of them, won’t go and think about 14-24mm for now…is price plus, i had the Tokina 11-16mm which, i am satisfy with that.

Luckily, the concert hall had a wonderful light setup, well balance of light were pour on each performer good looking face, Majority of the setting on my camera is -

S  :  1/125s - 1/160s (thanks to the vr2! all the pictures i took was hand held, and is crispy clear and sharp!)

A : Mostly in F2.8, i need more blur on the background, unless there is some groups photos in the end of the concert .

ISO : With that low shutter speed, I was able to shoot in the range of 1600 - 2500 with my nikon D7100 and is still clean! ( too high iso range will have some “noice”, which destroy the image quality)

My opinion on this Nikon 70-200mm Vr2:

- It produce Fantastic image quality, probably because of the "ED".

- FAST focus speed and quite focus motor which is helpful in concert photography for catching the face expression of the performance.

-Thanks to the VR, i was able to shoot in 1/125s - 1/160s to get more balancing exposure without rising the ISO, good for concert photography too if the light setup condition were poor.

-Is god damx Sharp and superb image colour quality, specially on the lens flare.

-Is God Damx EXPENSIVE, but it worth.....

I was lucky, as a concert photographer, I was able to listen and watch the whole show with free admission, the night end well with the fantastic performance.

Although i am “working”, sometimes..there is moment which.. I will stop the shooting and watch the performer expressing their “word” through the music they perform, for me… 

There is the moment, I don’t want any distraction, including the camera itself, I just want to be in the moment. 

Lastly, A big group photo ends the Music Rendezvous Concert.

“hi Moses, do you shoot Photo Booth? There is a job on xx of March, tell me what price you charge”

This is the first “word” with my current “boss” of my photographing business journey.

I am a part time Photo booth ( i think event photographer is better name for me) photographer, i shoot mostly in the wedding and some times birthday parties or company dinner. I had been shoot for more then ten times, well… i think i can call myself a Professional Photo Booth photographer now(syok sendiri).

At first i think it was not hard job, i guess Photo Booth is just something like shooting the moment in the event, but the truth is, i don’t even know what is “photo booth”. After i set a price to my boss, yeah, the business trip started.

Recently watched the movies “The Martian” , Superb movie of all time !

The main actor was followed the Nasa team to Mars for mission, but accidentally the crew left the main actor left alone on Mars and thought he was dead( of cause he won’t). With nothing and limited living supply on Mars, every steps was critical , but as a plant biologist him self(do not forget he is an astronaut too!!), he had to create a farm on Mars to grow plant and survive. The movie shows how a man survive in a tough place with just his own knowledge, without the knowledge , he would dead early.

This movie touched me, it remind me how i was improved in every photo booth session. Every time i shoot, i improved, been complain from my boss’s event agent, to the bride or the families.. but without all the complaints , i won’t improve. and this was the first Photo Booth i ever had on March

IT WAS HELL, with no proper lighting, the shadow are bad, the reflection of the background was bad too, expression are bad, angle are bad, speed were bad, colour were bad , bad bad bad bad bad…

not a nice memory , but at least the bride invite us to eat with them , the food was nice.

After the first attempt of shooting, i am home and quickly study the picture , yes, the poor background picture, by using that every time i shoot with my flash the light bounce back, result of a white over exposed on the two head of the couple.

On the next shoot too, i made the background a lot bigger , it was an indoor company dinner

not bad, just the tone colour on the face are bad, is like they over happy with red face when printed out.

Other then improving on shooting, i had to improve my gear too, so i saved up and changed my lens.

not a bad lens, but it can't auto focus on nikon D3000-3300 or D5000 - 5200

the holy 24-70mm 2.8G Nano coating lens, no 24-70 can beat it in my opinion.

Believe me , it makes difference ,  but still not enough , what if there is a outdoor or overseas shooting? I need something portable and i can use it for anything. So i bought two umbrella , Two more flash, some wireless flash trigger, flash stand , memories card….. sound pricey.

but the result was good, and this were the “improvement” of all Photo Booth i shoot. beginning until the most current shoot.
